Submission to one another in marriage is not a new idea.  Jesus modelled what submission looked like his entire life.  Paul taught this very idea in Ephesians 2:21-33.  From the time of Adam and Eve, sin in the world has tried to destroy this core value that God established from the beginning.  God’s desire is for a husband and wife to join into a partnership, not a dictatorship, with one another.  When sin entered the world, this idea of partnership in marriage was perverted. (Genesis 3:16)  The good news is that when Jesus came, he redeemed everything, including our marriages, back to the original partnership that God intended.  We can experience this when Jesus is present in our lives and we put Jesus’s ways into practice.

Why is submitting to one another so hard and why is there always the desire for one person to be in charge or rule over the other spouse?
